A multi-purpose oak framed sports pavilion

  1. Bespoke oak framed sports pavilion design and build
  2. A fully managed service

Sunningdale School is a small boarding prep school educating 110 boys. This family-run establishment was founded in 1874 and sits in 25 acres of mature gardens. The school required a new sports pavilion and wished for it to blend traditional cues with contemporary features to reflect their rich history and future vision.

Bespoke oak framed sports pavilion design and build

An all-purpose sports hub to inspire sporting enjoyment and success.

The new cricket and sports pavilion is a hard-working space that looks perfectly at home on Sunningdale’s sports fields. The cupola-topped exterior complements other buildings on site, and the high-specification finish delivers the premium edge our clients requested. The glass balcony acts as a fantastic viewing platform for parents and teachers during matches while bringing a contemporary touch to this classic building design. The spacious interior means there’s plenty of space for match teas, changing facilities and team meetings, while acting as a home for the school’s wellbeing and counselling service. It also provides much-needed storage for sports equipment while housing cherished sporting memorabilia.

Despite its original designation as a sports pavilion, the dramatic vaulted ceiling and welcoming atmosphere of this special space means the school has decided to use their new oak framed pavilion as a home for future AGMs and special events such as Christmas drinks.

A fully managed service

Our team looked after the entire project and supported the estate team with the information they needed to secure funds and approvals.

Groundworks were challenging due to the presence of historic oak trees, which meant we had to take extra care. We also needed to supply the pavilion with services, which included discharging wastewater across a 200m cricket field. The team loved the challenge of determining the best way to do this, and the school appreciated how we could look after everything, relieving a great deal of extra work and potential stress. We coordinated production in our workshop and the subsequent frame erection and liaised with the windows, doors and balcony suppliers too.

Although much of the groundworks and building took place during the summer holidays, we did some of the work while the children were at school. The team accommodated the teachers’ and children’s needs and became a fun part of life at Sunningdale, even being invited to the school’s Friday afternoon BBQs while they were on site!

What our clients say

“Working with Eavoak has been the most fantastic experience from start to finish. During the design phase the team were brilliant at fulfilling our brief and adapted the design in such a clever way to create a stunning building that matched the purpose of the school superbly. The construction phase was faultless. The whole project was brilliantly managed and nothing was too much trouble. The standard of workmanship on the building is outstanding and we have ended up with a pavilion that we are exceptionally proud of. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Eavoak to anyone considering an oak framed building.” Tom Dawson – Headmaster, Sunningdale School
